Networking Best Practices

Lavu recommends that you hire a Lavu Certified Reseller or Network IT professional to set up your network. Your POS is a critical part of your business and the network needs to run flawlessly for the POS to function as it should. Having your network professionally configured and installed will ensure that it does. Any network problems will negatively impact your point of sale.

Every business location is different and there is not a one-size-fits-all solution to setting up a network. However, there are some basics that every business should consider.

Use Ethernet cables to hardwire your hardware. Although the iPads and iPods are wireless, the rest of your POS should be hardwired. It is more secure and reliable; ensuring that there is no data loss and your customers order is printed in the kitchen. Using shielded cable will reduce interference. Hiring a professional to install it will ensure cable is laid properly and to code.

Use business-class hardware because you have a professional business and your network is just as important as your lights. While you can go to the big box stores and buy a consumer-class router, they are simply not designed for type of work you are going to need them to do.

Design your network for where you project your business will be years from now, not for what you need now. Business-class hardware will allow you to expand and add on as your business grows.
