Selling and Using Gift Cards

This is the 3rd in a series of articles about setting up your Lavu account to use Gift Cards. Please review the first 2 articles listed on the left if you have not already done so.

This article reviews Selling Lavu Gift Cards and then using these cards for Payments when customers purchase their orders.

Sell a Gift Card

There are 2 types of Gift Cards: Fixed (preset priced) and Variable (open priced).

Selling a "Preset Value (priced)" Gift Card 

  1. Add the Gift Card item to the order.



  2. A keypad pops up on the screen allowing 

    1. Manual Entry of the Gift Card number (then tap the Submit button)
      (primary method if credit card integration is not enabled)

    2. "Automatic" Entry by "swiping" the card 
      (if a "swiper" is available and attached to the iPad)



  3. A new screen pops up. It displays 

    1. the current balance available on the card (if any - there isn't any existing balance in this example)

    2. how much to "load" on the card

    3. if a previous balance was available, the window will show what the new balance on the card would be (both examples below)

          

  4. Tap the Load Card button on the screen.

An item labeled Gift Card now appears on the order ticket.

Selling a "Variable Value (open)" Gift Card 

  1. Add the (variable) Gift Card item to the order.



  2. A keypad pops up on the screen asking what value should be applied to the card item.

    1. Tap the keypad numbers for the desired value

    2. Tap the "Go" button on the keypad



  3. A keypad pops up on the screen allowing 

    1. Manual Entry of the Gift Card number (then tap the Submit button)
      (primary method if credit card integration is not enabled)

    2. "Automatic" Entry by "swiping" the card 
      (if a "swiper" is available and attached to the iPad)



  4. A new screen pops up. It displays 

    1. the current balance available on the card (if any - there isn't any existing balance in this example)

    2. how much to "load" on the card

    3. if a previous balance was available, the window will show what the new balance on the card would be (both examples below)

         

  5. Tap the Load Card button on the screen.

Process a payment using a Gift Card

  1. Tap the Check Out tab when ready to check out.

  2. Tap the Gift Card payment button



  3. A keypad pops up on the screen displaying the order total and allowing

    1. Manual Entry of the Gift Card number (then tap the Submit button)
      (primary method if credit card integration is not enabled)

    2. "Automatic" Entry by "swiping" the card 
      (if a "swiper" is available and attached to the iPad)



  4. A new screen pops up. It displays

    1. the current balance available on the card (if any)

    2. how will be "used" from the card for the ticket

    3. what the new balance on the card will be



  5. Tap the Use Card button on the screen.

  6. If there is a balance still on the ticket, process paying the balance.
