      Custom Gratuity

      A tutorial article showing you how to enable the Custom Gratuity option, and how it can be used on the POS.

      Custom Gratuity allows you to change the percentage/amount of gratuity applied to an order at the checkout screen. When gratuity is initially applied to the check, it will apply the default amount listed in your Advanced Location Settings.

      Activating Custom Gratuity

      1. Click on Settings on the left hand side.
      2. Click on Location
      3. At the top of the screen, click on Advanced Location Settings.
      4. Either scroll down to Checkout Options, or use Control + F (Cmd + F on Mac) and search for "Gratuity".

      In this example, a 15% gratuity will applied to my orders. Scroll down a bit further to find the setting Enable Custom Gratuity. Click the checkbox to enable the setting. We also recommend enabling the setting just below it.

      Using it on the POS

      Now that the setting has been enabled, whenever gratuity is applied to an order, you can edit the amount by tapping the pencil on the left.

      Tapping the icon will give you the following options:

      1. Reset to the default gratuity percentage (set in Advanced Location Settings).
      2. Remove gratuity from the order.
      3. Add a custom gratuity based on a percentage.
      4. Add a custom gratuity based on a dollar amount.

      Note: When entering a custom percentage for gratuity, enter a whole number, as opposed to a decimal. For an 18% gratuity, type 18.00 and then hit the enter key.

      When a custom gratuity option has been entered, the pencil icon will change to show that is has been customized.
