A short article detailing how to set up a dual cash drawer system with Lavu POS
Normally, a Lavu POS system works with a single receipt printer and cash drawer. However, with a dual cash drawer setup, you can connect a single receipt printer/POS to two cash drawers.
Required Hardware
Other than the POS iPad, printer, and cash drawers, the additional piece of hardware you will need is Lavu's Dual Cash Drawer Splitter.
This splitter will allow to connect two cash drawers to a single receipt printer, and allows Lavu to open specific cash drawers based on the employee that is logged in.
In the dual cash drawer bundle you will receive two numbered cables: CD-101A and CD-101B.
Plug the 101A cable into the port labeled "A" on the splitter, and the cable 101B cable labeled into the port labeled "B".
Please refer to our General Cash Drawer Setup article if you need any additional guidance on for connecting cables between your printer and cash drawer.
Control Panel Settings
In order for Lavu POS to properly recognize a printer that is connected with a dual cash drawer setup, you will need to enable.
First in Advanced Location Settings, scroll to Checkout Options and enable the Dual Cash Drawer setting.
Finally, navigate to Printers/Technical settings on the left hand side, and click on Printers/KDS.
Locate the receipt printer profile you are attaching multiple cash drawers to, and click on it to edit its settings.
Within the printer's settings, you find a setting for marking this specific printer as a dual cash drawer setup. Simply enable the setting marked in the image below, and click Save.
Note: You may be required to reselect the settings next to Printer Type, Command Set, and Model. Use the same settings that you had before, only replacing the Command Set with Epson Thermal (Dual). The other settings should remain the same.
Dual Cash Drawer on the POS
Compared to a standard cash drawer setup, the main difference you will see in the POS exist when tilling in and out with Cash Reconciliation under Management Tools.
First select either Cash Drawer 1 (A) or Cash Drawer 2 (B), then tap till in to enter a starting balance. Then, scroll down to assign the cash drawer to a specific employee.
This setting will determine which cash drawer opens based on the user that is logged in. Once the cash drawer has been assigned, you will see their name listed above where you can view and print the till summary.
Note: Level 3 users will be able to assign cash drawers to other employees, while Level 2 and lower users will only be able to assign the cash drawer to themselves.
