Pre-Remote Installation Checklist

A detailed guide regarding what should be done at your restaurant before an onboarding specialist begins your remoter install

Please ensure the following and all relevant setups are completed before beginning your remote install.

General Building Maintenance

  • Ensure all construction in the building has been completed.
  • Ensure power is safely established and all wall outlets are properly grounded.
  • Purchase of any necessary extension cords or power strips you will need to plug in all Lavu devices (including printers, card readers, iPads, etc.).

Networking

ubiquiti_router

  • Ensure your Internet Service Provider modem is set up, and that you have an active internet connection at the restaurant.
  • Test your wireless speeds and ensure they are at least 100 Mbps upload and download (use speedtest.net or a similar site).
  • Unbox Ubiquiti Router and plug into power.
    • Use an ethernet cable to connect the Ubiquiti Router into your modem.
  • Unbox Ubiquiti Switch and plug into power.
    • Use an ethernet cable to connect the Ubiquiti Switch into the Ubiquiti Router
  • Unbox Access Points and hang wall/ceiling mounts.
    • Make sure to place your access points high up on a wall or ceiling where it will be unobstructed from view (general rule of thumb is that each POS terminal should be within a line of sight to at least one of your access points).
  • Run ethernet cables from one of the ports on the Switch that says POE to where your access points will be.
    • Connect your access point and ensure you see a flashing blue light (this means it is establishing a connection).
  • Mount your access points into the wall/ceiling mounts (by now you should see a solid blue light, indicating that the access point is connected and is broadcasting a wifi signal).
    • Be sure you have purchased an access point for any outdoor seating areas. Find a spot where it will be protected from the weather, and that is still visible to your servers and iPads that will be operating outside of the building.

  • Unbox all hardware and group each printer with the included power cables and ethernet cables.
    • If you are using wireless printers, you will have a USB wireless adaptor instead of an ethernet cable.
  • Place all kitchen printers, connect the power and network cables, and turn the power on to ensure it is working.
    • You should also receive a small slip of paper with an IP address on it (keep this paper).
  • Place all receipt printers, connect the power and network cables (or wireless adaptors), and turn the power on to ensure the printer works.
    • Just like with your kitchen printers, you should receive a small slip of paper with an IP address on it.
    • If you are using a wireless printer, your printer should instead say SimpleAP Start.

  • Before your hardware arrives, be sure to purchase an ethernet cable extender (the provided cable attached to the card reader is very short and will likely not be long enough to reach your network switch).
  • Pick out a spot for your card reader (this is not a mobile card reader).
  • Unbox the card reader and power cable.
  • Plug the reader into power using the provided cable and ensure it turns on.
  • Using your ethernet cable extender, connect your reader to your network switch.
  • When connected, the reader should say “Connected”.
